Job Description

Our client is seeking a Director of Front End Development who wants to be leader within a technology team where every engineer is responsible for the quality of our platforms, working to create a world-class user experience. This individual will manage all Frontend developers, and will guide their growth and development through regular, individualized mentorship and performance management. S/he will also act as the Technical leader for all Frontend activities.

Our Engineering team is organized into autonomous cross-functional pods, each owning unique segments of the Digital platform. The Director of Front End Development will collaborate with other directors (Backend, Digital Design, Product, Data Science) to drive innovative, and foster a cohesive vision for the platform, while building and developing a strong Frontend team to deliver on this vision.

***As a Director, Front End Development, you will: 

● Collaborate with the VP Engineering and Backend director in building and developing the best engineering team in Montreal and a leading edge Web platform
● Lead the Front End engineering team, focusing on execution, sustainable productivity, and delivering results.
● Help guide architectural decisions, time estimates, and prioritization of projects based on business needs.
● Accelerate and optimize developer velocity by helping to implement best practices. Own results for technical performance and speed.
● Be a hands on technical mentor, participating in architecture design, code review, and implementation of proven software design patterns.
● Drive a high-performance culture within your team that iterates frequently and learns continuously - without sacrificing quality.
● Recruit diverse top tier engineering talent against an aggressive hiring roadmap, and lead their onboarding and training.
● Be an outstanding coach and mentor for the Front End team, setting performance goals, managing and evaluating performance, and facilitating career development.
● Act as a cultural ambassador; attend events, and be an outstanding representative of Breather in the local technology community.
● Engage with Product Management, Design, Data/Analytics teams to deliver world class experiences


Must Have Skills:

● A post-secondary degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent hands-on experience
● 7+ years in an engineering or development role
● 2+ years in relevant leadership position
● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; bilingual is a plus
● Experience managing a high-performing engineering team
● Highly experienced at creating code and standards and holding an organization accountable to these standards
● Customer focused and UX driven
● Demonstrated experience writing clean javascript code both client side and server side using Node.js environment
● Excellent understanding of React Javascript framework
