PHP Developer (Contract)

Job Description

As a PHP Developer, you will be involved in all stages of product developing. You'll create new product ideas and help guide the product roadmap, spec out what the next generation will look like, and implement it yourself. Because of this, we are looking for an individual who thrives in an environment where they will work creatively, take initiative, and deliver on commitments.

You will deal with some of the most challenging problems that come up. The scale and speed of growth forces our client to experiment with techniques and technologies only the very biggest websites need to use. Sometimes our client finds something other people have pioneered, and adapt it to fit its sites. Other times they’re the pioneers, inventing new solutions.

- Contribute to product design and implementation discussions
- Push the envelope on speed to implement projects from the idea phase to production
- Test and iterate code before and after production release
- Design, architect, and implement new functionality
- Maintain existing code base and implement new features as required

Must Have Skills:

Required Experience:
- University degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field
- Proven experience in Software Development (Full Stack) with an understanding of test/behavior driven development
- Hands-on working knowledge with LAMP
- Experience with PHP 5+, MySQL 5+
- Experience with Ruby On Rails
- Experience with JavaScript MV* frameworks, design patterns and jQuery
- Experience with HTML and CSS
- Experience working with third party APIs and Web API development
- Experience with Version control and Git
- Ability to analyze, modify, and extend existing applications as well as develop new code
- Understanding of scalability, systems engineering and algorithms
- Ability to quickly learn new languages, as required to support the business
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders including senior management, peers and third parties
- Self-reliant, good problem solver, results oriented, excellent time management skills, good sense of humour
- Attention to detail!
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Interest in learning to work with various JavaScript libraries and frameworks

Nice to Have Skills:

- Experience with Nginx is an asset
- Experience with Linux is an asset
- Experience working with payment processing is an asset
- Experience with Unix shell scripts is an asset
- Experience with websites localization is an asset
